So,You Want a free Dot Com..

Allakhazam! and your wish has been fulfilled! Do you know that you can get a free individual domain with a Dot Com? It’s a dream come true for all who can’t or don’t prefer to spend some money periodically on a hosting service. And some of you bloggers might have noticed that your posts were/are getting comments like,

“HI ,

Increase your revenue 100% of your blog by converting into free website. Convert your blog yourname.blogspot.com to www.yourname.com completely free. Become proud owner of the (.com) own site.”

Yup..thats right, whoever commented wasn’t kidding nor was he a spammer :). The amazing revolutionary concept of “free Dot Com” is provided by HyperWebEnable.

To be honest even i as one of the people who missunderstood the service to be a scam but, soon the truth hit me with sweetness. I requested for a free website and soon i was thrilled with a reply that the domain has been registered with the domain name of my choice! and the Admin deatils of my new hosted blog was mailed to me. They only have a small requirement that your website must be active and must have some traffic, which is good thing for them as it would keep their portal crap free. So go ahead, send in a request at HyperWebEnable and see the magic happen!

Windows 7 Hits Milestone 3

Mary Jo Foley says:

I have seen the future — specifically Windows 7 Milestone 3 (Build 6780).

A Rough Preview

I got a gander at the latest test build of Windows 7 briefly (courtesy of a source of mine) and was not allowed to take any screenshots. But it is real, it does exist and it is, indeed, in certain testers’ hands inside and outside the company.

From the quick glimpse I got of Milestone 3, it sounds like Bryant of AeroXperience was right on the money with his hypotheses about what’s changed in the latest internal test builds. The latest build seems quite stable. The Ribbon user interface from Office 2007 is now part of WordPad and Paint. Home Groups — the functionality formerly known in “Longhorn”/Vista as “Castle” — is part of the new Windows 7 build.

I also noticed that the “Graphical Console,” a k a PowerShell Version 2, seems to be part of the latest pre-release Windows 7 build.

(Looks like Stephen Chapman over at the UX Evangelist site got to see Build 6780, too, and has a lot more to say on Windows 7’s Paint and WordPad.)

From what admittedly little I had a chance to see, Windows 7 does not look or feel like a major departure from Windows Vista.

Sources say there isn’t an “M4″ currently on Microsoft’s Windows 7 schedule. Next up is likely some kind of preview build (which may or may not be distributed to those attending the Professional Developers Conference and/or Windows Hardware Engineering Conference in October and November, respectively.) After that, a broadscale Beta 1, which should be feature-complete and pretty much set in stone, is expected for mid-December.

Like my ZDNet blogging colleague Ed Bott said, it’s not impossible for Microsoft to hit a 2009 release for Windows 7 if the first true beta doesn’t go out until December. Such a move would not be unprecedented.

Do you think the Softies are going to get Windows 7 out the door in 2009, as they are hoping — and maybe even early enough to make it onto new machines in time for Holiday 2009 sales?

Love Your Eyes, Take Care Of Them

Source: www.funnystuffz.com

Do you squint when reading from your computer screen? Do numbers and letters seem to phase in and out from time to time? Do you find it hard to focus? If so, you are probably experiencing deterioration of your eyesight. Eyes are often neglected by people and their eyesight often deteriorates prematurely as a result of this neglect. Here are a few tips to keeping your eyes healthy for longer and avoiding cataract operations later in life.

Stop Smoking
Smoking cigarettes can be very bad for your eyes, not to mention your heart, lungs and social life. A recent article in Reuters Health Information states that smoking increases the risk of developing cataracts, clouding the lens and impairing vision. If you stop smoking you have a far reduced risk of developing cataracts in later life, but only some of the damage done to your eye by smoking cigarettes is reversible. Give up, and if you don’t smoke, don’t start.

A study found that men who quit smoking had a 23% reduced risk of cataract diagnosis and a 28% reduced risk for cataract removal compared with those who carried on smoking.

Using computers on a daily basis, is probably more strenuous on eyes than any other part of the body. The most common complaints are eye fatigue, eyestrain, eye irritation and blurred vision. Computer users often complain of tired, burning, itchy or watery eyes, headaches, flickering sensations and an inability to focus.

UV Rays
Exposure to UV, whether from the sun’s rays or from fluorescent lights within a work place, causes eye damage. From a young age, children should be encouraged to wear sunglasses with a UV protection factor of 30 or above. UV exposure is the leading cause of cataracts.

Eye Strain
Eye strain can be caused by reading when tired, stress, glare on computer screens, bad posture and tiredness. The symptoms are headaches, blurry vision, sore, itchy or burning eyes. You can ease eye strain by placing your hands over your eyes or splashing them with cold water.

Eye Exercise
Like any muscle in the body, the eyes need to be regularly exercised to keep them healthy. Here are a few things you can do on a daily basis which may help:

  • Roll your eyes from side to side.
  • Close your eyes for three seconds, and then open them for three seconds. Repeat.
  • Switch between focusing on an item that is close by for three seconds, and then an item which is far away for three seconds.
  • Blink regularly and try not to stay focused on one thing for long periods.

The Ultra-Fast 32GB Extreme III Sandisk CompactFlash Card

Flash memory is becoming the favorite storage media for a lot of devices nowadays, including here professional video cameras (while digital photo cameras have used it since they first appeared on the market). For this reason, SanDisk, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of flash-based storage solutions, has just introduced a new model in its Extreme III CompactFlash series, which offers no less than 32 GB of storage space and very impressive read/write speeds, of up to 30 MB/s.

“High-definition camcorders require high-capacity memory cards, and our 32GB SanDisk Extreme III CompactFlash cards offer video professionals longer record times and improved data transfer rates,” said Susan Park, director of consumer product marketing for SanDisk’s performance cards. “Our award-winning SanDisk Extreme III CompactFlash cards carry a tradition of excellence, and the recent series-wide speed increase to 30MB/s advances their legacy as professional-grade storage devices.”

Indeed, as Mrs. Park points out, the 32GB SanDisk Extreme III CF card provides increased capacity for longer-duration filming, and its 30MB/s (200x) read and write speeds enable users to record and transfer content quickly and reliably. This could come in handy especially for people who shoot videos in HD format, whether we’re talking about professionals or enthusiast amateurs.

Another important customer segments targeted by the new 32GB SanDisk Extreme III CF card is that of professional photographers, and that’s because they often shoot strictly in RAW format. As some of you might know, the RAW images demand up to ten times more space than regular JPG images, but at the same time offer photographers a wider choice of processing options.

The 32GB SanDisk Extreme III CF card is slated to arrive in stores across the US at some point in October, with the rest of the world to follow. As for the price, it’s not exactly very cheap, selling for a suggested $299.99 (but hopefully, SanDisk will cut the prices down a bit over the on-coming Christmas shopping season).

The Google Chrome Masterplan

“Chrome set to take over your desktop”

Google's Master Plan

Preview of the browser

Today, Google will launch Chrome, just days before the search giant’s 10th birthday. The buzz overnight has been that it’s just an internet browser. But that’s surely not the case. Silicon Valley Insider says what we’re all thinking - that Google’s new project is a whole lot more than a way to surf the internet and uses Microsoft’s old ‘link and lever’ strategy that served Windows so very well.

It’ll bring together all your Google services on and offline (the latter powered by Google Gears). And that’s a scary prospect, especially when Google will inevitably add to its existing PC manuafacturer relationships by pre-loading it on numerous PCs. Google already know what’s in my webmail and what I search for. And I don’t want them knowing what URLs I visit or anything else about me - it knows enough. Of course, the reason why it wants to know this stuff is that it’s all about serving ads.

Gears: Google’s Microsoft slayer

If you’ve used Google’s iPhone app, you’ll know that it’s basically a Gateway to all Google products. This is now being replicated in the cloud-computing-powered Chrome. Google knows that by bringing everything together it can only make itself stronger. Google Gears replicates this strength offline.

Google Gears is an underestimated part of Google’s portfolio. The ability to work on documents offline will help Google’s online propositions work like standard software - and what’s more, everything is integrated and linked up by your single Google Account. Not exactly Google’s sexiest download, users will soon have Gears without even realising it as part of Chrome.

When that happens, why would anyone pay for stuff like Microsoft Office? And would you even need Windows with all your apps appearing as shortcuts in Chrome? The OS that sits behind that window becomes much less significant, making pre-installed Linux an attractive money saver.

And that, more than anything, is probably what’s probably raising heckles in the boardrooms at Microsoft’s Redmond HQ.

Revealing the 160 GB PlayStation 3 and a New Peripheral

Sony Computer Entertainment America announces that the PlayStation 3 gaming console is getting a new bundle, aimed at the North American market. The bundle is released because of the upcoming launch of a limited edition of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

The bundle is set to retail for close to 500 dollars, specifically 499.99 dollars, and the package will include a 160 GB PlayStation 3 system, a copy of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, which was created by Naughty Dog, a PlayStation Network voucher which will get you downloadable game Pain from Idol Minds and a DualShock 3 wireless controller.

Jack Tretton, who is the president and the CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, explained the increased hard drive of the bundled console by saying that “As PlayStation Network continues to evolve with our recently-launched video delivery service and more exclusive games, PS3 owners are demanding more storage capacity”.

It was widely anticipated that Sony would create a console variant with a bigger hard drive but some analysts also expected to see an across the board price cut for the console. Sony seems to believe that storage capacity is more important to potential buyers than price and sales of the new bundle will prove whether they are right or not.

Sony also says that a Wireless Keypad will be launched. The new peripheral will be attached to the Sixaxis and to the DualShock 3 and will make its first appearance in North America in November.

The new Wireless Keypad will be used to access the text chat communication service which is implemented in PlayStation 3. A Communication Button and a Message Box Button are included so that users can jump to the XMB while playing a game. It seems that the new peripheral can also be used with some smartphones and with other portable devices.

Sony says that LittleBigPlanet and PlayStation Home will offer full support for the new Wireless Keypad. Prices have not been revealed for the moment.

US Customs Are Ready To Seize Your Gadget

US customs have the power to seize your laptop or iPod when entering the country - even with no reason to do so.

Although this power has been in place for a while, the truth only recently came to light thanks to a group lobbying for the disclosure of the Department of Homeland Security policies.

We own your soul

Apparently agents can seize the items for ‘unspecified amounts of time’ and can share the information with the relevant authorities and private entities for data decryption and the rather ominous sounding ‘other reasons’.

This basically covers all digital media, so it’s best not to enter the country with a 1GB flash drive taped to your inner thigh…this is nothing to do with the story, it’s just sound advice for life generally.

However, the results of going through your stuff have to be destroyed if there is no reason to keep the information after a review.

But if you’ve got over 1,000 illegally downloaded tracks on there…best get that old Walkman out for the next trip to the States.
